Welcome to the Cubmasters Corner

Welcome back to school Scouters!

Well Scouters it is that time of the year again, the air is cooler and the boys are back at school! It is an exciting time of the year, a time of change, and a time of excitement for everyone. This year with PACK 334 is not going to be any different. For instance this year we have year one WEBELOS. And while the Scouts can look forward to a whole lot of work, they can also look forward to fun and adventure. WEBELOS bring to the pack the need to experience the outdoors. That is right folks that can mean only one thing. CAMPING! Hiking! OUTDOORS!

Well I guess that is three things!

To celebrate our outdoor theme I would like all DENS to work on two outdoor themed awards for the Scouts. This will be in addition to their normal Merit achievements, but duplicates some of the requirements. The first award is the  CUB SCOUT CONSERVATION AWARD. With this award I hope to work with the School on a conservation project or planting some trees on the campus itself.  The other is  CUB SCOUT OUTDOOR ACTIVITY AWARD. This would have been fun to work on during the summer but we can still get it done as part of the normal achievements with the Scouts.

One other award I want to work on with the Scouts is the Religious Emblems award. I am looking for the training on this so I can help the boys work towards completing this. These awards are based on their faith and denomination.

On another note, we need more scouts and parents! I know this is nothing new, this seems to be the plight of PACK 334. One surefire way to get boys interested, is for them to realize that the Scouts are doing something that they want to be doing. One way we can do this is for the Boys to wear their uniforms to  school. This will create buzz around the classroom. Perhaps we can even do a flag ceremony for some of the awards presentations at the school. What better day for the boys to wear their uniforms then Back to School night and day. They can wear the unifroms for a little bit during the day, and then return with them for the evening. Hey it is worth a shot isn't it?

Lastly there are a number of things we can do as a pack this year. And they range from Camping to Carnivals, to Trains to Farms, but all will lead to fun and education.

Here is to a great third year everyone!
